WHAT IS TOASTMASTERS INTERNATIONAL?

Toastmasters International is an organization that teaches speaking, listening and thinking skills.  It was founded by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley in Santa Ana, California in 1924.  There are now 150,000 members meeting in over 50 countries.

Toastmasters provide members the opportunity to:

  • Develop communication and leadership skills in a professional and nurturing atmosphere.

  • Gain personal growth through improved self-confidence.

  • Make new social and business contacts.

  • Succeed.  Success in life often depends on your ability to speak.  People who can effectively express their ideas possess one of the most important skills in life.

  • Learn to speak.  In Toastmasters, you learn by doing.  Each member has the opportunity to speak, evaluate other speakers, conduct meetings, and serve as club officers.

    WILL TOASTMASTERS WORK FOR ME?

    Yes!  Here’s why:

Public speaking is one of the most common fears among adults and yet it is one of the most important skills for people wishing to succeed socially and in business.

At some point, everyone in the program stood where you stand today.  We know what you are going through.  We are here to help.  As Toastmasters helps you, you will learn to help others.

It doesn’t matter how shy you are, or how well spoken.  The Toastmasters program begins with basic public speaking skills, learned in a highly supportive environment.  As you progress through the program, assignments become more challenging.  You advance at your own pace.

Each speech is evaluated in a positive manner.  You learn what your strong points are and where you need to improve.

In Toastmasters, there are no grades and no exams.  You move at your own pace.  You progress as you feel ready.
